Eliza Carthy
- from United Kingdom
Since the mid 1990s Eliza has been a force majeure on the folk scene and beyond. Her family heritage has, of course, informed her work, but her ferocious, inventive fiddle playing is all her own, and she's been fearless in upholding tradition and extending it, as the drum 'n'bass of 1998's Red Rice showed. Twice nominated for a Mercury Prize, Eliza maintains a punishing work rate that incudes many collaborations.
